gecko vs. gtkhtml

Hi everybody,
i don't want to mess anybody up but i'm just curious why epiphany uses gecko and not gtkhtml?
Is gtkhtml so bad for a browser?
I know evolution uses it but the html email are not a big challenge for it.
I'm using epiphany 1.4 (Debian Sarge) so if a newer version is using gtkhtml, never mind.
