I'm running Ubuntu development version, all libnotify related packages
(except the documentation) are installed.

Maybe there is one thing that could cause this problem: I've built the
notify-sharp lib from subversion trunk, but its make process didn't use
the libnotify (0.4.4) available on my computer, instead it fetched an
older version of libnotify (0.4.0) from the web, and used that to build
notify-sharp.
