My vote goes to Joel's proposal, if and only if the xmlModuleSymbol API
is fixed to handle the valid NULL pointers.

I am not too concerned about missing some platforms if ltdl is updated.
We can just reimplement the same functionality in Joel's code; it's only
a minor effort.
