sounds like you need to upgrade or reinstall atspi
and related packages.
look at orca's output
scrap that, just read your second message I think the no focuss issue
could be a gnome issue,
on mate i'm not having any issues.
do you know how to gennerate a de-bug.out?
orca preferences go to the keybindings tab and look for
cycles dbug level at run time.
write arrow on that and press enter or space on it press the key
combination you want then
click apply
or okay
click that key combination till you hear
dee-bug level all.
then
press alt+f2 then type orca --replace --debug
