[orca-list] [FWD: burt1iband gmail com] Re: How to access all installed applications from mate desktop?

This contains some bits not in the offlist message, so please read all the way through, Austin.
Reffering to the standard categorized menus shortcut:
Yes, this will show you every graphical app normally as far as I know.
There may be an "other" category, and this is where apps that do not have keywords that put them in to
somewhere else should be found.
If there is no other, or you suspect something is missing, you can use the filemanager of your choice, caja
works very well for this, and open
/usr/share/applications/and see everything. This is independent on desktop environment, i.e. will work in
gnome, mate, lxde or whatever.
Most of your CLI apps will not show up there as this contains .desktop files which are the launchers files
for GUI programs. Some CLI aps make such a file
to launch themselves in a terminal window, e.g. elinks, or on some distros mutt even.
Mate does a good job categorizing apps in my experience, but once in a while something indeed may show up in
a less than intuitive place for a user.
If you go in to your settings menu I think they stiull include the menus item, may not be in prefs or admin,
only in the grid of settings options.
If you do still have this, there is an available category called all or something like that if I am not
mistaken, but just opening the dir with the
.desktop files as explained above works as well, and avaoids clutter everytime you open menus.
If you do find a program that is not showing up in any category, let me know and I can help you to rewrite
the .desktop file so that it will show up where
you like.

Hi all. I'm wondering if there is a keyboard shortcut in orca to do
this? I no that alt f 1 will bring up the application categorys, but
i'm not sure how to access all installed applications, especially
because i know sometimes that an application can be installed but not
put in the proper place in the menu. Thanks for any help.
