I'd hit the tab key until you aren't in an edit field. there may be a better way to do this though. I'm out the door now, but hitting escape or Orca+z might also get you out of edit mode.

NVDA doesn't make you hit enter when in an edit field, and JAWS had a mode to automatically put you in edit mode without having to hit the enter key. I think it's just a different way of doing things, and for the most part, I prefer it. Of course, it does mean getting to know your screen reader and how it interacts with your browser, just as you do with JAWS.
