That is almost certainly the same Gtk+ (possibly pango) bug:

The reason Orca is fine in this case and not in the other case is that
there is a segfault in the application. When the application is gedit,
Orca can get over it. When the application is Orca itself, this is not
the case. (I'll try to find a way to get Orca to detect this case and
die more gracefully, but the Gtk+/pango bug needs to be fixed.)
