Re: [orca-list] Fluxbox: Only at-spi-registryd needed for accessibility?

Hi,

I'm using fluxbox as a wm, it does about exactly what I want, but it
basically isn't accessible itself. What I man is this I haven't gotten
fluxbox's menus etc to read, but I can open apps like firefox and
successfully use them which is all I really want from my window manager.

Hello,

I tried to set up fluxbox with orca. I wrote in ~/.xsession:

exec /usr/lib/at-spi/at-spi-registryd &

ok, I don't have a .xsession, but I do have in ~/.fluxbox/startup the
following part relavent to accessibility.

export GTK_MODULES=gail:atk-bridge
export SPEECHD_ADDRESS="inet_socket:localhost:6560"

/usr/lib/at-spi/at-spi-registryd &

you may not need the speechd line depending on your configuration.

Then I log in using xdm and then start orca from the fluxbox menu,
using orca -n. I'm doing this without sighted assistance.
Orca does say "Welcome to orca", and then falls silent, I guess because
he can't find at-spi-registryd. But pgrep does find it:
===
% pgrep at-spi
18448
===

what happens if you then open firefox for example?
I thought it could be not working because fluxbox maybe isn't using the GTK-Library (I don't know), but
Orca doesn't work in the xterm either.

well, xterm definitely doesn't use libatk-bride, and won't be accessible
with orca, although from time to time I run yasr in a xterm. As far as
I can tell fluxbox doesn't use gtk, but its very keyboard friendly so
you can switch between apps and do what you want to do.

What am I doing wrong?

I'd try using an app like firefox that is accessible.

Trev

Thanks and
greetings
Sebastian
