Hi Rob, all.

Hi,
I use gnome-terminal combination with screen and irssi.

Whilst I have very little problems a constant annoyence is when a new
line of text is introduced my flat review position is also reset to the
bottom of the screen.

Looks like we already have an open enhancement request for this issue:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=579125

Is there an orca setting or a script I can install that may stop this
from happening.

Not yet. :-)

Aside from the fact that we just haven't had time to deal with that
issue yet (sorry!), there are some interesting things which need to be
figured out -- and potentially agreed upon. In particular, Orca's "flat
review context" is kinda like a snapshot of what was present on the
screen at the time you entered flat review. When new text comes into the
terminal, the flat review context is no longer correct: Stuff that was
on the screen might no longer be visible, but it's still part of the
flat review context. On the other hand, new stuff which is visible (in
this case, your incoming chat message) is not part of the flat review
context.

So it's not as simple as merely stopping it from happening, unless you
don't want to read the new messages and have an accurate picture of
what's on the screen. We'd have to detect this condition, rebuild the
flat review context, and ... where do we put you? In the same place
based on pixels, which might not be the same place in the text? Or do we
try to find your original text which may have moved? And what if that
original text is no longer on the screen? And, once we all agree upon
exactly what should take place, what will it take to pull it off? (I
don't mean it can't be pulled off; merely that I've not done the initial
research to figure out what's involved and what other issues we might
run up against.)

Sorry I can't simply hand you the fix....

If others have ideas, suggestions, etc. by all means chime in. If anyone
is bored, really cares about this issue, and wants to dive into flat
review, mi Orca git repository es su Orca git repository. ;-)

HTH. Take care.
