[orca-list] Command line query

Hi list,
Am I correct in thinking that there is a comand to search for applications
in Linux? I think the command is apt-cache search application name. This
works with some, but how do I stop the terminal from scroling as even when
maximizing the screen I cannot find the application even though it exists?
