In the case of Ubuntu, this typically isn't necessary. Being able to use another sound system with gnome-speech, however, seems to require a rebuild of the system. Ubuntu currently comes with PulseAudio, and that introduces quite a lot of latency with Orca. Does Lenny use another
sound server, or does it go straight to oss or alsa? Regards, Steve
