Re: [orca-list] Orca Key behavior/customization (was Re:More accessibility for orca issue)

That's a good point,

I can't see a reason for having to choose between the two either. And if you had a full size desktop keyboard or a numeric pad plugged into a laptop then surely this would enable you to be able to have numlock on for the keypad making it easier to type numbers and calculations and use the caps lock key as the Orca key so that Orca commands were done always with the main keyboard. I think this would be really handy.

Will,

While on the subject of Orca keys ...

I've been meaning to ask if there is some reason we must enforce a
choice between Desktop and Laptop modes? Why can't both be active? If
the user then chooses to hold down CapsLock and use the right handed pop
keys, great. Or if s/he chooses to use the numeric, great as well. Is
there some reason it has to be one or the other and can't, at least
optionally, be both?

It's a minor annoyance, but I am constantly resetting this based on
whether I've plugged a 104 external keyboard into my laptop, or just
removed one.

The both/and approach has been successful for Speakup, btw.

Hi All:

Just to follow up. I've created some new enhancement requests for Orca.
Please feel free to use Bugzilla to comment on the associated bugs if
you want to suggest a different approach than is proposed in the report.

Provide configuration GUI option to set the Orca key/modifier:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=536827

Allow sticky/locking mode for Orca key:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=536826

Allow bypass of Orca's keyboard commands:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=536825

I don't know when we will be able to implement these, but the good thing
is that they are recorded and are on our radar screen now.

Thanks for the discussion around these!

Will
