hello, i'm using espeak with speech-dispatcher and I can also use espeak with gnome-speech.
I'm really not sure what the problem is but when I am using orca with espeak it just doesn't run as smooth as when I use somehting like dectalk for example.
I think the biggest problem I am having is in gnome-terminal, when I press a keyboard command for example using flatreivew to read up and down the screen if I hit the bottom of the screen to fast orca just keeps repeating the last statement over and over again, I don't know, maybe i just am trying to go to fast?
Maybe someone else can explain the simular simtoms further.

That seems like a pretty decent machine.  So...I guess the next thing to 
do is get more specific about where you are experiencing sluggishness, 
and more about your specific environment (e.g., speech synthesis engine, 
applications you are using, how you are interacting with them, etc.). 
Can you describe these further?
