Just to verify: you got no error messages from xdpyinfo and you seemed
to get lots and lots of information about the X Server?

At this point, I think running orca from the same terminal where you ran
xdpyinfo would be the thing to do.  But, we're working with a very
non-standard configuration at this point.  It would be much better if
you were able to use gdm.  Is there a reason you need to use startx?
