If such a legacy app tries to open /dev/dsp using (snd-pcm-oss module)
other alsa virtualdevices are blocked.
In my opinion the speech-dispatcher can be a good start for orca.
Unfortunately it isn't currently very useful.
Speechd needs to be stabilized before using it for orca as default
speech solution.
