Hi Luke:

Orca currently dlopen's libbrlapi.so and resolves BrlAPI symbols at run
time.  We realize this is a point of contention with the BrlAPI
developers, but the main reason Orca does this is to eliminate the hard
requirement that BrlTTY/BrlAPI be installed on the machine in order to
build and/or use Orca.  (Not all screen reader users are braille users).

I think the ultimate solution may be to use the Python module being
developed by the BrlAPI folks, but that's currently not very far along
as far as I can tell.
