Can someone take a guess at how they think it would fit in with other
open source mobile technologies?

The architectural diagram (http://ofono.org/documentation) doesn't
show how it would plug into other pieces of open source.

The media implies that it's a whole new stack, not something you'd use
with GNOME Mobile or Moblin:
