My only hesitation is whether to pick entire paragraphs which are
three or four questions in one, or whether to lift single sentences
from them when I like those single questions. (Whether or not it was
the main thrust of the question.)

I assume it's up to me which I do (and there is a docs question going
begging in the middle of one of them, so grabbing that is tempting :)),
but comments are welcome.

I'd say 'pick entire paragraphs': this way, candidates will more easily
understand what the person who posted the question meant. But you can of
course just pick one question from a long paragraph: you're right when
you say this is up to you :-)

Incidentally, is there any point in selecting questions which are
about the design and implementation of Gnome? My understanding as
both foundation member and ex-board member is that these things
are well outside the remit of the board.

No technical questions. The board of the Foundation is not involved in
technical decisions, so we should really avoid these questions. We all
agree here.
