keyboard shortcut, or panel menu option, to toggle "show hidden files"

Anyone else think it would be swell to have a keyboard shortcut to
toggle "show hidden files"?
Every time I have to go to the "Options->Configuration" menu to toggle
this option I think there ought be a key for this, or at least as a
toggle option in each panels menu.
