I wish somebody actually using the tree replied to your questions, but
they are probably too busy. I know that they exist and read this list.
You can use F3 ("Forget") to remove the branch. Unfortunately, it
hides the current directory as well. I don't know the reasons for that
behavior. It may even be a bug, but I have never seen anybody asking to
fix it.
