Re: basic gtkmm desktop

Hi Adrian,

gtkmm is based on Gnome and gnome is based on X, i don't think you can use application in gtkmm without X and Gnome installed. Probably you can build a standalone working desktop environment (which will be probably like Gnome (because you're using Gimp ToolKit) which works on X but not another graphic server. Surely someone else will help you better than i can, but i'm pretty sure you can't do what you want with gtkmm.

Cheers,
Stefano

Hi all,

I am thinking of building a very basic desktop GUI on top of a stripped down version of Fedora. That is, I have a Fedora system installed on my machine, with no desktop environment whatsoever, no Gnome, no KDE, no X Window, nothing graphical. Is it possible to build a basic/simple desktop environment for this, using only gtkmm? Are there any dependencies or prerequisites, other than the ones required for installing gtkmm?

Thank you,
Adrian
