label on top of drawing area

1. I'm using this example code:

If I move the mouse fast, I don't get a sequential line (made out of rectangles). Is this intentional and if yes, how can I get around it?

2. I want to display a text label on a drawing area at a specific coordinates (say 100, 200). How can I do this?
