Eh.. I used cpan to install Gtk2 on an iMac G5 with fink and did not 
encounter any large problems (DND does not work, but I did not expect 
that). This is what I wrote down about the install:
 $ fink install libgnomecanvas-dev
 $ cpan
    > install Gtk2 #(and required dependecies)
    > install Gnome2::Canvas
How did you install Gtk2?
