Re: Gtk2-Perl Tutorial

Hi Emmanuele ,

En ce jour du Fri, 28 May 2004 01:19:48 +0200,
Emmanuele Bassi <bassi-e libero it> parlait ainsi :
I'd like to help with the tutorial even though i want to say that my
skills are limited , there are things in GTK that i still don't
understand. But i saw parts of the unfinished english tutorial that i
think i can explain and others that i can amend .
The translation of the GTK Tutorial from C to Perl is currently being
written by me and James Curbo. For lack of time on my part, it has
lagged behind schedule, recently.
That happens all the time in our sweet world ... Look at the time it took
me to answer ... :)

The Gtk2-Perl Tutorial is not only a 1:1 translation of the original
tutorial: it will have some Perl specific sections, like the one on
subclissing widgets. So, if you want to help, you are most welcome.
OK , i didn't completely figured out that you start from the C tutorial .
That's why there were so many things that shocked me on the Perl point of
view (while valid they looked way too C-ish to me).

I am very much in favor to add Perl specific sections . If you don't use
GTK with Perl for what it's worth , why then use Perl ? Stick to C ! :)

So how do we start ?

The tutorial is available on CVS, under the gtk2-perl-tutorial module;
it has been written using DocBook 4.3, using XSLT in order to render in
HTML (and, later, in other formats, such as PDF and PS). It also has
some style constraints (on both text and markup), in order to keep it
consistent between various authors.
Well i think i don't know anything about all these but i hope that with
the source and some patience from you all , i'll know enough to write
things respectfully of your specifications .

A "beta" version is available on my site:

I know , you're already googled .
