but this should work,

cvs -d:pserver:anonymous cvs sourceforge net:/cvsroot/gtk2-perl login
(just hit enter for a blank password)
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous cvs sourceforge net:/cvsroot/gtk2-perl co gtk2-perl-xs

the only other issues with working out of cvs is that you may be better off
not using a system wide install. look at the INSTALLING sections and for info
about PERL5LIB in the README files and look at the PREFIX setting the the
gtk2-perl-xs root dir's Makefile.
