Do you want to develop for both Gtk+ 1.2 and Gtk+ 2.0?  If not,  I 
would suggest ignoring the gtk-perl stuff.  It is deprecated as a for 
the old Gtk+ 1.2,  although,  the Gtk+ 2.0 stuff is still in heavy 
development.
