In favor of g_idle_add and g_timeout_add; Christian mentioned the variants with the gtk_ prefix not the g_ Glib based ones.

Deprecated in favor of what alternative?  The apparently-latest docs
(unstable or 2.15) don't give any clue about the deprecation or the
recommended alternative.
