Whats the thinking behind the apparent need for all widgets to be explicitly
"shown" using gtk_widget_show? I would have expected all child windows to be
positioned/sized and displayed by default as children of the parent window.
Is it possible to set something up to avoid having to call this for each
child control/widget?
