Freeze/Thaw a GtkWidget

Hello all,

I'm curious how one would go about freezing (stopping UI updates) and
thawing (applying and resuming UI updates) a GtkWidget, as well as any
children of it.

I see gdk_window_(freeze|thaw)_updates(GdkWindow*) but that's not
applicable to GtkWidget.
