gnome date edit not behaving

If have a gnome date edit in glade with the time disabled, then load it
with libglade, no problem.  But if I have the following line, the time
still shows up.
GnomeDateEdit *expires = GNOME_DATE_EDIT (gnome_date_edit_new
        (expires_time, FALSE, FALSE));

This is very annoying.  Is there any to fix this?
