BG window color.

Can anyone point me to a walkthrough/example for setting a global
background color for a window?  Everything I am seeing is specifically
referring to color selection dialogs.  Looking through the API reference,
it looks like gtk_style_apply_default_background() might do the trick,
however I've been unsuccessful as of yet.

Tips/hints/RTFM's appreciated.
