FYI, we're having a bunch of opencv plugin in gstreamer as well:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gst-plugins-bad/tree/ext/opencv
there is a face detection element already. Its not perfect though, some
patches that will improve it are currently discussed in bugzilla.
