ok, but what if i want to put a link on my desktop?
why should i download gnome-tweak-tool?

I can't understand why gnome developer decided to eliminate the
freedom for the user.
Take for example kde plasma? do you like it? i don't, and i don't use
it. kde plasma doesn't let you have icons on your desktop; you should
organize your activities.... i have no time nor i want spend time in
organizing anything, i just want to get the job done whatever it is.
Since I like icons on my desktop when i have to struggle to get icons
and shortcut on my desktop i'm not happy; gnome 2 let me have icons on
my desktop. gnome 3 no, gnome-shell decides for me and i can't stand
it.

That said, i'm using gnome 2.32 and xfce on another machine and i'm
happy; simply i just wonder What will happen when gnome 2.32 will
become obsolete?
