Thanks for the advice.

Will and I have discussed crosshairs since I posted this "XOR" 
question.  He felt that transparency alone was fine for a first pass.  
Transparency is much simpler in Clutter.

Nonetheless, I will keep your pointers in mind for future development of 
this feature, and, possibly, other colour manipulations.
