I am not so much part of the team but my 2 cents:

I feel it is essential to correct mistakes in the stable documentation.
Any changes that are valid in both branches should definitly be
cherry-picked into the stable branch. There should also be subsequent
releases when there are some changes. The reason I see is that most people
will stumple upon the docs that are on library.gnome.org (Google is your
friend...) and this is pretty much independent from the fact that distros
might not pick things up.
