Hmm, it worked for me then, but in the meantime it stopped (probably
related with an upgrade to Fedora 17 with gitg-0.2.5-3 and git-1.7.11.2-2).
After started with mentioned command gitg currently shows only stash and
unstaged changes. "Select branch" is selected in a branch list.

Is it a known issue or I'm doing something wrong?

Seems like a regression from 0.2.4 (I use it here and it works) to 0.2.5. Please file a bug report on bugzilla.gnome.org
