Why gdm hard code this feature?
A configuration options may be better.
The reason this isn't yet configurable is because nobody who cares about
the feature has provided a patch to manage this via a configuration
option.
For the time being, I wouldn't recommend working on this, though. We
are in the middle of a GDM rewrite, and it probably makes sense to wait
a month or so and figure out how to make this work after the rewrite is
a bit further along.
