Does the face browser really need to be optimized for that use case? If there are too many users the face browser isn't of much use anyways. KDM on SUSE for example displays up to seven users. If there are more users in the system it displays the seven most recently logged in ones instead. No, I'm just trying to think of ways that the daemon could "set up" a directory with the information for the greeters without needing to pass the information (e.g. image data) over any protocol.
Sorry for sending the extra email, but I wanted to mention that I have had *many* GDM users tell me that they like using the Face Browser with many more users - I've reports of 100-200 users being used happily by some users. Surprised me when I first heard people liked using the Face Browser with so many users, but it seems to be common based on the numerous people telling me that they use it this way. Brian
