Your document will be useful to others.  We have had a number of users
who have tried building GARNOME on OpenSuSE with varying degrees of
success. 

Check out dbus, hal and friends to insure that they run properly. You
may wish to rebuild these with --enable-tests since the source contains
some tests.

Also, look at libgnomesu.  There is a simple test described in the
libgnomesu doc that you should try. This will exercise PAM.
