I did further experimenting and found, that with another, better 
performing owncloud provider none of these problems occur.

I dont think, performance really is relevant for a address book and 
calendar server. Rather privacy and costs do matter.

So if there'd be a way to make the implementation less sensitive to 
timing and server's response, I'd appreciate that.
