Join me to the list of people confused about what "opening Firefox in
evolution window means" (maybe you should provide a screenshot?)

I think you should try these commands on a terminal console:
xdg-open "https://wiki.gnome.org/Evolution";
firefox "https://wiki.gnome.org/Evolution";

Is each of them able to open firefox on your firefox session?

The first one, yes, it opens Firefox and no it opens my homepage instead
of the link:
chris localhost:~$ xdg-open "https://wiki.gnome.org/Evolution";
chris localhost:~$
(process:15099): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion
'sys_page_size == 0' failed

The 2nd tells me this:

chris localhost:~$ firefox "https://wiki.gnome.org/Evolution";
The program 'firefox' is currently not installed. You can install it by
typing:
sudo apt-get install firefox
