Does the above command remove "mbox.ibex.index" and "mbox.ibex.index.data" 
files?

yes

Another question for you.  Do the contents of ~/evolution/cache/http also 
need to be deleted before backing up evo?

no, but then again, neither do you have to rm -f the summary files before backing up.

if you include te summary files in the backup, when you restore, evo will probably load the mailboxes faster since it won't have to regenerate them.
