Evolution looks very different under KDE compared with gnome.  It's probably worsened by the fact that SuSE modfy KDE so that the active window gets their mascot's head in the title bar.  I'll try a different theme and report back.

It looks like you're using the Gtk2 "QtPixmap" theme engine, which tries
to make Gtk2 apps look like KDE. (Maybe SuSE 8.2 uses that by default?)
It's possible that it's buggy/inefficient. What happens if you switch to
another theme? (Like "Raleigh")
