You are very right.  It's been a long time since I've looked carefully
at my folder tree--since I switched my mail server to IMAP from POP, I
got sick of seeing the extraneous "Local folders" and annoyed by the
fact that my folder bar must now be wider, since the IMAP folders are
indented further to the right.

So I put everything I need into a shortcut bar (though aesthetically the
I prefer the old folder bar layout and never used shortcuts before), and
forgot that Evo had separate so-called "Trash" folders for each
acocunt.  Ooops!
