[Evolution] terminal check

is there anyway to send evolution some sort of signal or a flag at the
command line that will have it check mail?

i would like to tell bbkeys to check my mail when i press the mail
hotkey but in order to do that i need to run some sort of program.

for example, with xmms i run 'xmms -p' to play a song, and 'xmms -f' to
go forward one song.

anything like that in evolution?
