Hmm, okay, but why is Evolution so extremely slow in rewriting the file?
I mean, ancient programs like elm beat Evolution completely when it
comes to deleting messages which are "close" to the end.  And more
modern clients (mutt) are also blazingly fast when deleting the 1st
message.
