There isn't a great solution right now to that problem. 
Now, you can use LDAP hosting for shared addressbooks.  Calendars aren't
quite so easy, but there's iCal and so forth, and Evolution handles
RSVP/schedule negotiation within the calendar.

Other options would include reverse-engineering the Exhcange protocol,
or re-implementing Exchange functionality. Neither of those is
particularly attractive to anyone right now.

I'm not sure what will happen there, but I assume we'll eventually come
to some sort of plan for the future once we finish with the client.
