But this is the crux of my problem....when I try to run red carpet,
either by typing red-carpet...or by selecting the icon nothing happens
on the computer. In fact it is as if I didn't run a command at all.
Let me know if you think of anything else, thanks again

Hello Mr Hudson.
The dropdown menu I refered to is -in- Red Carpet. It doesn't
matter how you start the app. You can always run doorman-reset
to get a different set of -desktop- menubars.
