One of the samba hackers had started working on decoding the MAPI
protocol, which would have let Evolution talk to Exchange 5.5. But
he's put that project aside for a while.

Evolution 2000, which was just released last week, supports a WebDAV
interface in addition to the MAPI interface. No word yet on how much
easier to deal with that would be. (gnome-vfs speaks WebDAV, but the
details of the data organization on the server may not be obvious.)
People who are familiar with MS's developer sites might want to look
around for information on that?
