Prefer the dark variant of the GTK+ theme?

Bjørn Lie filed a bug about switching Cheese to use the dark variant of 
the GTK+ theme:

I attached a patch:

Vincent is asking whether the patch will be merged upstream. I guess 
that this should be deferred until 3.4, and so only be pushed to master, 
as it would present a UI freeze break. Any maintainer comments would be 
appreciated.
